FANTASTIC 2012

From 6 October 2012 to 13 January 2013, Lille is all set to be fantastic!

After exploring India and the many different faces of Europe, lille3000 now takes us to a strange and magical new world... FANTASTIC. A four-month programme packed with big names and new discoveries from the world of national and international, contemporary creative arts. With urban metamorphoses, major exhibitions at all sorts of cultural venues, extraordinary shows and festivities, and events dedicated to design or science, FANTASTIC is a place to dream and escape.

With EDF, a long-standing partner of lille3000, FANTASTIC invites visitors to stop off at the Gare St Sauveur to explore the energies of the future.

"Energy Lab", a project conceived by Loop.pH, lille3000 and EDF

Gare Saint Sauveur will play host to the "The Energy Lab", a low-energy pavilion dedicated to the energies of the future, a place for exhibition and experimentation.

"The Energy Lab" will showcase entries received for the EDF Sustainable Design Challenge, a design competition held by EDF, and the "Herbier énergétique" collection developed by designers at EDF for the 2010 Saint Étienne International Design Biennial.

The pavilion also offers creative workshops where visitors can explore the energy potential of fruit and vegetables, use algae to produce biofuel, make bioluminescent lanterns and much more...

In the heart of Jean-Baptiste Lebas park, visitors are invited to walk through the "Energy Orchard" created by Loop.pH, a group of British artists. The park will be transformed into an amazing, mystical, futuristic place by illuminated works of art, drawing a poetic line between electricity and energy of plant origin.

La Rambla, an illuminated work of fantasy

FANTASTIC also sees EDF present La Rambla, an extravagant, illuminated work of art on Rue Faidherbe in Lille. Designed by François Schuiten, a Belgian comic book artist and scenographer, and created by Ricardo Basualdo, this installation measures 200 metres long and 12 metres high and is made up of more than 5,000 LED bulbs, transforming the street into a palace of interwoven lace made of lights.
