A classroom at the Cité du design in Saint-Etienne

Created in July 2005, the Cité du design exists to ensure the development of higher education programmes, research, and cultural and economic action within the field of design. It takes particular interest in designs that invent and represent "new life systems" using objects, images and services.
The Cité du design holds the International Design Event in Saint Etienne, a unique event in the world of design that drew 85,000 visitors during its 7th year in 2010. The scale and success of this event earned Saint-Étienne the title of "City of Design" by UNESCO, the second city to be awarded this title after Berlin.
During the 2010 International Design Event held in Saint Etienne, several "Design and energy projects" were presented by EDF during the exhibition entitled "Demain, c'est aujourd'hui #3" (Tomorrow is today #3) by Claire Fayolle. EDF was also a partner for the children's workshop entitled "Kids Candela" designed to help kids discover light as matter.

With the help of the APCI (the French Agency for the Promotion of Industrial Design), EDF launched the "The EDF Sustainable Design Challenge" in September, which called for projects that promote and share creative initiatives aimed at helping change people's energy consumption habits. Projects selected by an interdisciplinary panel of judges will be on display in the EDF Pavilion during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games for which EDF is an official partner, as well as a partner in sustainable development.Taking a closer look
