Medical and health research
EDF is committed to providing support for research into diseases which continue to challenge medicine, demanding significant human, financial, and technical resources. Encouraged by the scientific progress made in recent years, we are building on our efforts in this field.
A symbolic release of balloons: in 2009, EDF’s contibution to the Téléthon totaled to €907,000.
- The French Brain and Spinal Institute: the EDF Diversiterre Foundation is supporting the construction of the largest research center in Europe for brain and spinal cord diseases (Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Paraplegia, Multiple Sclerosis, etc.). Teams of medical researchers from around the world will work to develop pioneering treatments to prevent and cure neurological and psychiatric diseases.
- The Telethon: Since 1991, EDF's employees have committed themselves to Telethon with inventive and exemplary collecting activities such as ‘time giving' and sponsored bike rides, concerts from the EDF orchestra, and many initiatives from employees and Units at a regional level, providing evidence of employees' involvement with and solidarity for this cause. In the interests of continuing this commitment, in 1999 EDF entered into a partnership with the AFM to provide significant support to those suffering from illness and their families. In 2009, EDF and its employees raised €907,000 for Telethon. This year's Telethon will take place on December 3 and 4 2010.
- Conferences, forums and publications: the EDF Group participates in events on nuclear energy and its health risks. We also sponsor medical studies in epidemiological and toxicological fields. In one example of our work, we helped the Pasteur Institute provide medical support and healthcare for those displaced due to the construction of the Nam Theun dam in Laos.
