The Group is working with LOCOG and several London 2012 partners to develop a series of initiatives linked to London and the Games that will help ensure a sustainable legacy beyond 2012.

A low carbon vision for London

As London's leading electricity supplier, EDF is already helping to reduce the carbon footprint of two of London's most iconic landmarks (the London Eye, Tower Bridge) ahead of the London 2012 Games. It is estimated that the installation of energy efficient LED lighting at Tower Bridge will reduce the energy consumption of the existing lighting system by as much as 40 per cent.
EDF will also install smart meters in the Athletes' Village apartments enabling real-time monitoring of energy consumption. These devices will remain in the Village when it becomes residential accommodation after the Games, helping future residents re-think their energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint.

Developing electric mobility

In the run up to the Games, EDF and London 2012 partners BMW and GE are working with Transport for London to enable the development of an innovative recharging solution to support the Olympic fleet. The Group is providing the UK and the city of London with its expertise in the area of electric vehicle recharging solutions, giving people the option to move towards low carbon transport.
