Sports partnerships

As a socially responsible business, EDF encourages sports for everyone. Over the past 19 years, together with the French Disabled Sports Federation (FFH), the EDF Group has contributed to the promotion and practice of disabled sports, which have yet to receive the media coverage they deserve. By developing grass roots actions together with our partner Federations, we seek to raise public awareness of a subject we consider of prime importance: control of energy consumption.

We support the disabled sports challenge by contributing to the creation of events for the general public, such as the Rencontres EDF Handisport [EDF Disabled Sports Meetings] with the objective of raising the general public’s awareness of disabled sports, always in a festive and convivial ambiance.

We facilitate the professional integration of disabled athletes in our Group by enabling them to reconcile their sports career and their professional life. Today, we employ six disabled sport athletes at EDF, including multiple Paralympic medal winners Emeric Martin, Laurent François and Cyril Moré.

In addition to our partnership with the Fédération Française Handisport, which began in 1992, and to our support of the professional integration of high level athletes, we contribute our expertise to the design of equipment for high level athletes.

Among the sporting equipment developed by our R&D department in collaboration with the FFH is the Handifix system for wheelchair fencing. This device enables competitors to fix their wheelchair to the track in order to safely practice their sport. Handifix has already been used with great success during the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

EDF has also developed Orion - a patented assisted-aiming device for vision-impaired archers. This device transforms visual information captured by a camera into audio information that is then retransmitted to the vision-impaired athlete through a set of headphones.

Over and beyond its commitment in the area of sports, EDF also engages in specific actions intended to facilitate everyday life for people with disabilities: accessibility of EDF’s Bleu Ciel shops for its customers, research and development, considerations about disabilities, and actions to promote the social integration of people with disabilities by means of partnerships with the EDF Diversiterre Foundation.
