For the first time ASM Clermont will play a quarter final game at home.
At the close of the sixth and final day of the pool stages for the European competitions we now know the lists for the quarter finals of the H-Cup and the Amlin Challenge Cup of which EDF is the official partner..
In a major shock, Leinster, twice winner of the H-Cup, and Toulouse, four times winner of the tournament, have been knockedout in the pool stage. The team from Toulouse fell victim to the Tigers from Leicester who stopped them gettingthrough to the quarter finals for the first time since 2006. The Irish teamfrom Leinster are paying for theirtwo defeats against Clermont in spiteof a final victory in Exeter. Clermont qualify without conceding asingle defeat, the same can be said for Harlequins.
The other teams that have got through are: Saracens,Ulster, Toulon, as well asMontpellier and Munster, respectively first and second best placed runners-up.
Leinster, Toulouse and Biarritz will still get the chance to seek some consolation in theAmlin Challenge Cup, thanks to their rankings as third, fourth and bestrunner-up.
They will meet Gloucester, Perpignan, Bath, Stade Français andthe London Wasps who have allqualified for the quarter finals. It is worth noting that the three Englishteams finish the pool stage with sixvictories out of six, which promises to make the Amlin Challenge Cup one towatch as well.
